How to Stop Working So Hard

To Stop Working So Hard, you have to be different than you have been before. You might think you know how “to be” but likelihood is you do not. This is not the easiest thing to do.

I want you to know that you can do it and While it seems like it is not all that easy, I am going to explain it to you in a way that will make it easy. And the biggest thing I want you to take away today is that something else is possible when you are willing to do this.

So … all you have to do is let IT go. What do I mean by it? It is that thing you desire. Now you are probably thinking, yeah, I wish it was that easy. I understand that too. And I know that there have been instances in my life where it took me a long time to let go — to the point where I felt like I was giving up on what I wanted. But here is another thing, I was actually looking at other possibilities and in looking at other possible outcomes or ways for something to happen, I let to. And low and behold it happened.

But it is not necessary to do that and you certainly can. So how else can you do that? You simply let it be the way it is right now. And you may say, well I don’t want it to be the way it is right now. And that’s exactly the point. Then you are resisting what is. And as the old saying goes, what we resists persists. Take a moment and let that in, even if you’ve heard it before.

Now when I say be with it. I don’t mean analyze it. And I don’t mean repeat it over again in your mind. If you will just be with it, without having to think about it, you will see what you need to see.

There are times in my life when I have done this and times when I haven’t. Those times when I have done it were times when I let go. And I said earlier there are other ways I have done it as well. And those were in a time that I didn’t know how to let go. And sometimes I still don’t seem to know how to let go. And I do know how but I don’t think I do.

It can be done. You really just have to do it. and as we said that doesn’t seem easy so let me share with you 3 things that will help you with this

The first thing is you can do this if you tell yourself that you can. Think about it, that is true with most everything right. If you think you can’t you can’t and if you think you can you can. You have probably heard that before and it holds true here as well. Take a moment now to be with that. Don’t think about it, Just be with it.

Now the second is you can tell yourself this seems hard but it is not. because of course if we think something is going to be hard it will be and if our experience of something is that it is hard, we carry that forward and think it always will be and that does not need to be true either. But we have to let go of past experiences and our pre-conceived notions of how hard it has been or will be. Now take a moment to be with that. Again don’t think about it, don’t repeat the words to yourself again, just be.

Alright now, the third thing is you can tell yourself that you can have anything you want if you let go and be with what is. Again not so easy right, but that is the truth.

And so you may still not believe that you can do it. Now take a moment to think about something you want from your heart. Don’t analyze it. Just pick something and go with it. And so now that you know what you want, then let yourself be with where you are with that right now. and then that’s all there is to do. And allow whatever comes up to come up. So do that now.

Now if you don’t like what comes up, then that is something to let yourself be with as well. Don’t make it wrong, just be with whatever that is. And if you be with it rather than trying to do something to it or avoiding it, it will dissipate or shift on its own.

Making Peace with Money – Video

We are caught up in money madness stories that have us think that when we attain some magic money number, then everything will be okay . . . then we can be at peace . . . then we can relax.

Have You Ever Been Told “You’re Just Too Sensitive?”

heartinhandsLet’s face it — being sensitive has never been highly accepted in a world that is not so sensitive.  I believe that is going to change. Actually, it is changing.  The energy in the world is shifting and sensitivity is heightened these days – even for those who have not previously considered themselves to be highly sensitive. We are going back to our true nature.

There are lots of terms for what I am talking about such as highly sensitive, empathy and super sensitive. None of them make me feel warm and cozy. And I actually didn’t put myself in this category until the past few years.    Expressing your feelings was not acceptable in my family and it certainly wasn’t the way to succeed in the blue collar printing environment in which I was a Vice President before starting my own business in 1995.

So why should you care if you fall into this group?

In part, it can explain some physical and emotional challenges you may be experiencing as things in our world continue to shift.  But it’s also a positive. It actually puts you ahead of the curve as we move into a world that values six senses and not just five.  If you are a sensitive person, you’ve already been using your sixth sense – your intuition  – as well as your highly receptive nervous system.

But are you using them in a way that really works for you?

That’s what I want to see happen for all of us.  I have seen a variety of statistics on the percentage of people who are highly sensitive. But my guess is that it is higher for those of you who have been drawn to this newsletter.

I am calling this group of people of which I am a member, Sentelligent ™. Because we have a level of intelligence – a uniquely perceptive sensory system – that is heightened and  very smart.  We just have to learn how to nurture, listen to and honor what it is telling us.

From that powerful place we can learn to be happier and more successful in our businesses and lives.

Here are some signs that you may be A Sentelligent Person.  See how many resonate with you.

(You may not resonate with all of them and a statement may not feel true 100% of the time. If a majority of the statements feel true to you, then likelihood is you are A Sentelligent Person!)

    1. You have been told at some point in your life that you were “too sensitive” or scorned or mocked for “over-reacting” to
    things.

    2. You feel emotions deeply.  You may feel as if you “wear your emotions on your sleeves” but not necessarily. Men and those of you who are still in the corporate world may feel things but not show emotions due to cultural training that it is not okay to do so.

    3. You may be aware of the emotions of people around you.

    4. An insult or unkind remark will affect you deeply.

    5. Sights, smells, sounds, touches, changes in temperature and tastes may come through at heightened levels.

    6. You feel deeply for others’ suffering or connections. You may cry at Hallmark commercials or when others cry or when you connect deeply with someone.

    7. May suffer from recurrent depression, anxiety or other psychological disorders.

    8. You may be keenly aware of and affected by beauty in art, music and nature. In this group are the world’s greatest artists and art appreciators.

    9. You may be prone to stimulus overload. That is, you don’t like large crowds or hectic environments. You feel overwhelmed and depleted by too much stimuli.

    10. You were a sensitive child.

    12. You sometimes feel animosity toward  your sensitive nature. Most sensitive people whole-heartedly wish they were tougher and more thick-skinned. They feel like their sensitivity is a weakness. Therefore some sensitive adults have learned how to hide their sensitivity from others.

    13. You may use words like I “sense things”, “feel into” things or are “moved by” things.

    14. You flow with your feelings – laugh out loud or cry when a line in music touches you.

    15. Your sensitivity seems to grow as you grow older or lose weight or from other changes in the body or environment

    16. You may have a good time in social gatherings but then feel tired or not so good the next day ( even if you didn’t drink)

    17. You may “just know” things that other people don’t seem to know.

    18. You may have physical ailments that are not easily explained or healed by traditional or non-traditional medical practitioners. (including but not limited to fatigue)

    19. You may have unexplained mood swings and unable to determine why you suddenly feel sad or angry.

    20. You are a good listener and people tell you their secrets

    21. You feel stress and excitement in heightened ways

22 You have a deep need for fulfillment and meaning in your life

    23. Feel like you are different than others – don’t fit

    24.  May handle stress well in the moment and then feel badly later

Spiritual definition of stress

One of the goals of a Peaceful Entrepreneur is to have a successful business without all the stress.

webstersWe have all experienced stress more often than we would like.  Webster defines stress as “a constraining force or influence”.

I am reading Dee Wallace’s book, Conscious Creation. and found this spiritual definition of stress that I really like. . .

In our spiritual work, stress translates to, ” being in resistance to Source and applying force  upon self to control for Safety.”

With that in mind, ask yourself some questions:

Where am I resisting Source? the flow? my higher voice? my intuition?

Do I trust that I am safe or do I need to attempt to control things to feel safe?

And if so, how is that working for me?

It is human to feel like we need to be in control.  However, the miracles show up when we let go.

Where are you willing to let go today?

Our body talks louder so we can get quieter

Most of us understand the mind-body connection and that everything is related.  Well, we understand it mentally. But I continue to get this knowing at deeper and deeper levels.  Perhaps that is because the amount of time that it takes for my  body to let me know I am off track is getting shorter and the decibel level is getting louder.  Or am I just more aware?  Perhaps both.

My husband, Mike, has aptly named it my back-up alarm.  This is definitely a man thing. You know how heavy equipment like forklifts, construction equipment and even sanitation trucks make a noise that goes beep, beep, beep when they back up.  It’s a safety feature.

Well, when I do something that takes away from my peaceful state, my body has an alarm system that almost instantly lets me know I am headed in the wrong direction.

Here are a few examples:alarmblue

When I am trying to figure something out in my head – I get a headache.

When I am putting pressure on myself to make something happen (which I was doing last night) – I got severe pain in my left shoulder and in my stomach.

It used to work for me to make things happen from my head — those days are long gone.

Here’s another one. A while back I was  annoyed with some people  who were supposed to do some things for me and it wasn’t happening in the way I had planned.  I got a strong pain in my neck. (get it – subconsciously I thought they were are a pain in the neck and it showed up as tension in my neck).

When I pay attention to these signs, and understand what they are trying to tell me, I can then then  release  energy from that place in my body and then the pain goes away.  No medicine required. Sometimes it takes a while to understand what my body is trying to say. And sometimes, I need an outside perspective.  But once I get it, it makes perfect sense.

How does your body let you know you are off track or headed in the wrong direction?

Pay attention and let us know.

The Spiritual Evolution of Solo-preneurs

The two biggest things that get in the way of both the inner peace and the growth of an entrepreneur are fear and self-doubt.

Now there are many ways to deal with fear and self-doubt and generally I use energetic tools such as those in my Life Transformation Tools program to help me and my clients get out of our own way.

Today I want to talk about this on other levels as well.  It is no secret that there is a shift happening on our planet now — a change in consciousness. It is time to raise our vibration. But if we are in fear of moving forward with our business or doubting ourselves and our expertise, then we are holding our vibration down and there is resistance.

I know it is hard to trust when often times it feels like chaos is all around us. Yet if we do not trust ourselves, our intuition, our brilliance and the Universe, then we go nowhere.

So what if you looked at your business as a playground for your spiritual evolution?faith

Actually I have come to believe that it is. Everything that we create in our lives is an opportunity for us to learn and move forward on our spiritual journeys — and being peaceful is part of our spiritual journey.  (I am not referring to religion here, but a more global spirituality that is common for all of us regardless of individual religious beliefs).

So if you try something new in your business and it takes off like a rocket, you learn how to deal with it both from a business systems perspective as well as from whatever spiritual lessons you needed to learn (perhaps how others relate to you and you relate to others’ from this place).

If you send out a new promotion and there is little or no response, you learn things both from a spiritual  and a marketing viewpoint. That’s not to say you won’t be disappointed or perhaps obsess a bit about what you did wrong (ugh!).

But if that disappointment is disproportionately strong or you can’t let go, then it is a sign there are old patterns and memories to release and this thing that we called “failure” is actually perfect because it triggered something we needed to release for our spiritual evolution that will bring us to a place of peace. I experienced this firsthand recently.

Sometimes we don’t know what the lesson is or what there is to do. That is the time to get quiet … to be curious and allow the answers to show themselves or to get support from a spiritual business coach or healer in letting go of whatever is in our way.

As we move forward let’s  look for the gem in each situation that allows us to evolve spiritually. I know sometimes,  it can be difficult and we may want to scream and that’s okay too. But as we evolve,  I believe our businesses will  grow in new ways or get re-designed –such that they fit like a glove for our new way of being.  And from this place ,  I can only think that  “success” will be a given.

I welcome your comments.

Working Too Hard for Too Little Money?

Nearly one-third of the respondents from the Peaceful Entrepreneur survey said they were working too hard for too little money.workhardformoney

So let’s take a look at what this is about.

There is a tendency for people who are just starting in business to undervalue their services and their worth. As you grow your business, confidence builds and some people raise prices accordingly but some never do or lag behind.

And now on top of that, with the downturn in the economy, many entrepreneurs have assumed that people will not be willing to even pay their regular price.

And certainly there was a period of panic, when some people just stopped buying anything they considered unnecessary.

Therefore, some entrepreneurs decided they better lower their prices. Good idea or bad idea? If you did that, is it working for you?

Whew! I did it for a short time but found it was a bad idea for one-on-one services. That will definitely lead to working too hard for too little money.

What worked better was doing the exact opposite. I created a higher end program that offered more value and more focused and strategic time with me for a premium price. So now I am contributing more value and making more money with fewer clients thereby saving me time and energy. And I got more bites than when I lowered my price.

Surprised? Well the truth is there are always people who have money to spend 1000dollarsand they will spend it when they believe they will get good value. My higher end platinum coaching package is an extremely good value and people get that. And they are getting fabulous results in part, because there is a higher level of commitment on their part and on mine.

Now I know you are probably thinking, ‘I can’t charge more.‘ And ‘what about the people who can’t afford it?‘ I know because I had some of those thoughts initially too.

So here’s a couple of counter arguments to that persistent mind chatter.

1) When you charge more and attract the higher paying clients, you then have money to spend which will boost the general economy.

2) When you start making more with fewer clients, you have more time and creative energy to create groups, products and programs that will also serve those who cannot pay the higher dollar amount. ( i.e. my I’ll Pay You To Be Quiet Contest is free – well actually I am paying you. I couldn’t be doing that if I did not have the increased space in my life. I will also be creating other group programs soon. Group programs are another way to leverage time.)

3) End result is serving more people, making a bigger impact and positively impacting the economy.

Oh, but let me know forget the self-worth issue. Most of us have nagging mind chatter about our worthiness – especially women. I had to clear some issues around that before I was able to comfortably raise my prices. I used some of the tools I teach in my Life Transformation Tools & More Program to do that.

Are you tired of working too hard for too little money? It is in your power to do something about it. What are you willing to do ?

Is Your "But" in the Way?

How often do you think or say, “I would do it but…”

We all think or say some version of this statement from time to time. In that moment it seems like the truth. But upon further examination, you will find that it rarely is.

Some ‘yeah buts’ are half truths and some… well there is just no truth to them at all except that you believe it.

Here are some half truths:

“I would like to start a new venture but I can’t because I have a family to support”

“I would like to start a new venture but I can’t because I am single.”

In all of the above statements, the second half of the sentence is accurate, but the first half is a lie. (Really it is.) The true part is that this person has family to support or is single but the lie this person is telling themselves is that they cannot start a new venture because of it.

If it was true none of the married or single people in the world would have started businesses or changed careers or made changes of any kind. They found a way to do it and if you wanted to, you could too.

Here is another half truth:

“I want to grow my business to a certain level or create a new product, etc. but I can’t because the economy is in a recession.”

Again, the second half of the statement is true, we are in a recession but that does not mean you can’t grow your business. It just may take re-visiting your focus (what wants to happen) and marketing (in a way that is creative yet authentic). Make a point to look at the companies that are doing well right now rather than focusing on the ones that are not.

“I want to make my business successful but I can’t because I need to spend the time with my kids.” is another half truth.

Is it that you can’t grow your business because you need to spend time with your kids or is that an excuse some people are using to stay small? Now that may make some of you mad. Please note I am all for spending time with family, and I believe you can do both and have lots of examples of people who are doing both successfully. (You can find some great examples of this in my book “I Can’t Believe I Get Paid to Do This“.)

I know you are probably thinking, “but my situation is different.” There is that “but” again. Yes, your situation is unique to you, and it doesn’t mean that you can’t work around the “but” and find ways to do what you really want to do in your business, career or life.

This often takes really looking outside the box with creative ideas and putting structures in place to support that which you want to create. It also may mean looking inside to see what the belief is that needs to shift.

Here are some examples statements that are not true at all:

“I would like to grow my business but I can’t because I don’t know where to find clients”

“I would start a business but I am not good at marketing so I could never be successful”

In the first two sentences, the “but” is about something you don’t know how to do. How often do you get stopped because you don’t know how?

Where can you learn how? From whom can you learn how? Be willing to ask for help. Whenever we decide to do something new, there is a learning curve. You can let that learning curve stop you or shorten the learning curve by learning from those who have done it.

“I would hire a virtual assistant or a coach or a bookkeeper, etc but I can’t afford it”

In the last example, I would say that if you are in business for yourself, you cannot afford not to hire support to do the things that are not the best use of your time or to learn from those who have done what you want to do. Doing it yourself is the slow, arduous path. Be willing to invest in yourself and your future – it’s a safer bet than most investments these days 🙂

Here is an example of where a “but” almost got in the way:

I was working with a client who was exploring career options. He had several areas of interest and quickly ruled out organic gardening/farming because he loved it but her thought he could not make enough money doing it. He researched all the other areas of interest and found they weren’t really a good fit for him. When he came back to organic farming, he saw 3 things for himself.

1) It fit the list of requirements with the exception of how much money he thought he could make doing it.

2) When I asked him to look at how much money he needed to live comfortably, he saw that he did not really need as much money as he thought.

3) After getting past his “but” and getting into a place of possibility, he can now see that it is possible to make a good living doing what he loves and has stepped into his passion.

And I say thank goodness for that because we need more good tasting organic food in the world 🙂

Where is your “but” getting in the way?
