Most of us understand the mind-body connection and that everything is related. Well, we understand it mentally. But I continue to get this knowing at deeper and deeper levels. Perhaps that is because the amount of time that it takes for my body to let me know I am off track is getting shorter and the decibel level is getting louder. Or am I just more aware? Perhaps both.
My husband, Mike, has aptly named it my back-up alarm. This is definitely a man thing. You know how heavy equipment like forklifts, construction equipment and even sanitation trucks make a noise that goes beep, beep, beep when they back up. It’s a safety feature.
Well, when I do something that takes away from my peaceful state, my body has an alarm system that almost instantly lets me know I am headed in the wrong direction.
Here are a few examples:
When I am trying to figure something out in my head – I get a headache.
When I am putting pressure on myself to make something happen (which I was doing last night) – I got severe pain in my left shoulder and in my stomach.
It used to work for me to make things happen from my head — those days are long gone.
Here’s another one. A while back I was annoyed with some people who were supposed to do some things for me and it wasn’t happening in the way I had planned. I got a strong pain in my neck. (get it – subconsciously I thought they were are a pain in the neck and it showed up as tension in my neck).
When I pay attention to these signs, and understand what they are trying to tell me, I can then then release energy from that place in my body and then the pain goes away. No medicine required. Sometimes it takes a while to understand what my body is trying to say. And sometimes, I need an outside perspective. But once I get it, it makes perfect sense.
How does your body let you know you are off track or headed in the wrong direction?
Pay attention and let us know.
