I was watching a rerun of the Shark Tank the other night and there was a woman who was looking for investment partners for The Paleo Diet Bar which she created. The diet bar was endorsed by the founder of The Paleo Diet, Dr. Loren Cordain.
The woman was very muscular and looked fit. However, she was also very nervous and on edge.
She was a strong proponent and follower of the Paleo Diet.
Her anxiety, in part, was due to a lack of certain nutrients that she was not getting in her diet.
She was deficient in:
Calcium and Chromium as well as other trace minerals.
The calcium deficiency accounts for part of her nervousness on the show. Calcium has properties that calm you.
The chromium deficiency affected her ability to focus.
The Sharks (the investors on the show) picked up on her inability to focus and was part of the reason they turned her down.
The Paleo Diet suggests that you DON’T eat the following foods:
- Cereal grains
- Legumes (including peanuts)
- Refined sugar
- Processed foods
- Refined vegetable oils
It is one thing to go off these foods in the short term, but over the long term, it can cause nutritional deficiencies if you don’t find substitute foods that have the nutrients you need.
You can purchase supplements, but you may end up getting minerals and vitamins you do not need or more of vitamin or mineral than is right for your system. When you ingest too much of a vitamin, mineral or supplement, your body tries to excrete what it does not need and this taxes your elimination systems over time. This can make you sick.
It is important to eat a balanced diet so you get all the nutrients you need.
NOTE: If you have digestion problems, you may not be absorbing what you need from food.
